Wild Summer of Art returns to Brutus this July

Rotterdam’s most vibrant and diverse exhibition Wild Summer of Art (WSoA) returns to Brutus Art Space (Brutus) on 17 July, bringing together 50 local-based artists and creating an immersive blend of Rotterdam’s art scene where diversity and inclusion come together.

Brutus, located in the M4H district of Rotterdam, represents one of the largest contemporary art spaces in the country, spanning across 6000 square meters. Since its opening, Brutus has been devoted to its mission of shedding light on those voices that might otherwise go unheard, engaging with experimental work and emerging talents. It is a space where differences are praised, normality is challenged and everyone is an insider.

Wild Summer of Art is an exhibition that captures this spirit perfectly. Since its launching edition in 2022, the exhibition has been steadily growing in scale, showing the work of approximately 350 artists in total. With its fourth edition, called “Treasure Hunt”, WSoA will present more than 50 Rotterdam-based artists carefully selected by local curators Hajo Doorn and Cokkie Snoei, who have a deep knowledge of the city’s creative scene. They deliberately avoided an overarching theme or statement, opting instead for an intuitive approach.

To keep the theme of “Treasure Hunt” flowing, the artists were given freedom to present their most surprising or lesser-seen work. The selection perfectly reflects Rotterdam’s cultural community, representing various generations, backgrounds and disciplines. You will be able to see spanning paintings, sculptures, videos, performances, installations and much more.

In addition, the exhibition offers a rich program of weekly takeovers that will invite various artists and showmakers to make this summer even more eventful and full of experiences. Examples include an exclusive dinner for people to network and find their way into the art world.

The impact of Wild Summer of Art extends way beyond the exhibition itself. Previous editions have led to acquisitions by major institutions including Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and Fenix, as well as residencies, commissions and solo exhibitions for participating artists.

Wild Summer of Art operates on a pay-what-you-can basis. The exhibition is designed to be accessible to the broadest possible public, regardless of the social class or status.
