Discover 10,000 years of Eindhoven at Museumpark VONK

In the summer of 2026, Eindhoven will gain a remarkable new cultural destination: Museumpark VONK. Rising in the greensurroundings of Genneper Parken, this new museum park brings together the beloved open-air museum preHistorischDorp and Eindhoven Museum in an innovative new concept. Rather than a traditional museum filled with informationpanels, VONK will be an interactive place where visitors can discover, build and participate.

Many internationals know Eindhoven primarily as a city of technology, design and innovation. VONK adds another layer tothat story by exploring how the region has continuously reinvented itself throughout history, from the first hunter-gatherersto the industrial and technological developments of today.

The existing preHistorisch Dorp will become part of the new museum park. Its historical buildings, craft demonstrationsand living history experiences will continue to transport visitors into the past. But VONK also introduces something entirelynew. Major turning points in the history of the city and region will be brought to life through so-called ‘vonken’ (‘sparks’): imaginative, interactive structures designed by artists and designers. These installations invite visitors not only to observe, but to actively participate.

That participatory spirit comes fully alive in the Werkplaats (Workshop) inside the new museum building. Here, visitors of allages can help build elements of ‘vonken’ themselves. Once

completed, the structures will become part of the museum park. In this way, every visit

becomes a shared act of creation. This fits perfectly with Eindhoven’s identity as a city of makers and innovators.

Another important part of VONK is the collection of Eindhoven Museum. The museum manages around 23,000 historicalobjects connected to Eindhoven and the surrounding region, many of which have never before been publicly displayed. In the new museum building, a selection of these objects will finally be given a stage in an exhibition. An introductorymultimedia show will guide visitors through the story of the city and region.

The building itself is equally noteworthy. Constructed largely from biobased materials, the new museum reflects currentdevelopments in sustainable and circular design. A publicly accessible rooftop park will also be created, allowing visitorsto walk freely and enjoy views over Genneper Parken during museum opening hours.

What makes VONK special is that it aims to be more than a place where visitors simply look at history. It will be amuseum where culture, nature, design and participation come together and where visitors literally help build the story of Eindhoven.
