In November, the Residentie Orchestra welcomes star soloists Leonard Elschenbroich, Lucas Jussen, and, for the first time, Julia Hagen. The program in Amare, The Hague, features masterpieces by Elgar, Debussy, Ravel, Walton, Beethoven, Jeths, Schumann and Dvořák. The conductors are Jun Märkl, Richard Egar and Pablo González.
Friday 7 November (8:15 PM) & Sunday 9 November (11:00 AM): Elgar’s Cello Concerto with Leonard Elschenbroich
The renowned cellist Leonard Elschenbroich plays the melancholic sounds of Elgar’s beloved Cello Concerto. The composer wrote this intimate and direct composition from his deep emotions after the devastating First World War. The orchestra then zooms out with ‘Images’ by the grand master of sound: Debussy.
Friday 14 November (8:15 PM) & Sunday 16 November (2:15 PM): Beethoven’s Empire Concerto with Lucas Jussen
While Napoleon Bonaparte’s troops besieged the city, Ludwig van Beethoven composed his Fifth Piano Concerto, the Emperor Concerto. A grand, heroic, majestic work — pianist Lucas Jussen, renowned for his Beethoven interpretations, does it full justice. Lucas Jussen shares the stage for these concerts with principal guest conductor Richard Egarr.
Friday 28 November (8:15 PM): Dvořák’s Ninth & Schumann’s Cello Concerto with Julia Hagen
In the late 19th century, Antonín Dvořák wrote his very last symphony: the Ninth, also known as the Symphony from the New World. Austrian star cellist Julia Hagen makes her debut with the Residentie Orkest with Schumann’s lyrical, spirited, and virtuosic Cello Concerto. Conductor Pablo González accompanies this exciting conversation between cello and orchestra.
