On Saturday 5 July 2025, Drents Museum De Buitenplaats in Eelde will open the spectacular immersive exhibition The Mucha Experience. The art of the famous art nouveau master Alphonse Mucha comes to life in large projections, 3D animations and specially composed music. Visitors will experience the life and work of the Czech artist as they have never seen it before.
Alphonse Mucha
Czech artist Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) is known for his posters and decorative illustrations. These works are instantly recognisable, featuring female figures with lush hair, surrounded by stylised floral motifs and flowing lines, set in pastel colours. This is also known as ‘Le Style Mucha’ (the Mucha style), which became synonymous with French art nouveau. The combination and continuous alternation of projections, sound and specially composed music in the museum pavilion in Eelde means that visitors are immersed in Mucha’s story.
Versatile artist
In addition to posters and decorative illustrations, Mucha also designed jewellery, stained-glass windows, vases, folding screens, complete shop interiors and more. He also created fine art: paintings, drawings, pastels and sculptures. Moreover, Mucha strongly believed that art should not just be for a select few, but for the masses. His versatility and his ideal of elevation make him an art nouveau artist par excellence.
International exhibition
The Mucha Experience is the first international art nouveau exhibition of Drents Museum De Buitenplaats, which – with the Drents Museum’s collection of art around 1900 as its foundation – presents itself as the focal Dutch museum of art nouveau.
The Mucha Experience is on display from 5 July 2025 until 4 January 2026. The exhibition is organized by the Grand Palais Immersif and MUCHA Foundation.
