Amsterdam as a children’s destination

This summer, Little Bernie visit is published: a children’s travel guide about Amsterdam with interesting facts about the culture and history, but also with useful tips and a descriptions about all there is to see and do in the Dutch capital.

Little Bernie focuses on traveling families and English-speaking families in the Netherlands. The book is beautifully illustrated and fully in English. The story is narrated by Bernie, a traveling octopus, and Hannah, an Amsterdam heron.

We see the main characters fly through the harbour, past Central Station, and the Schreierstoren – where Henry Hudson, the founder of New Amsterdam, now New York, once departed – and we learn about the departure times of the Pancake Boat. Feeling hungry? QR codes are shown at most attractions that you can use to book tickets online and learn more about opening hours, festivities and special promotions.

At the front of the book you will find information about ‘the’ Amsterdammer, typical Dutch dishes, bicycles and even about money. For those who have not yet mastered the Dutch language, a series of handy sentences have been translated: “Jij bent niet Nederlands, Toch? Waar kom jij vandaan?” (You are not Dutch, are you? Where are you from?)

Also nice are the walks that have been set out per neighbourhood especially for families – from a short trip of 15 minutes to an extensive discovery tour that will easily take you an afternoon.

Little Bernie visits Amsterdam is a publication by Floris Media from publisher Floris Müller, who previously launched expat magazine The International Correspondent. He sees an extraordinary demand for information for traveling families and expats in the Netherlands. Amsterdam is, he says, visited annually by 24 million travellers. One third of them have children.

Little Bernie visits Amsterdam is published in collaboration with 50 four- and five-star hotels in Amsterdam, travel organisations, transport company GVB and the Cruise Port Amsterdam. The book is for sale at bookshops and travel shops in Amsterdam and online via Bol.com and Littlebernie.nl

In the coming years, Floris Media wants to publish publications in other major cities such as Brussels, Paris, London, Vienna and Rome.
