Situated on Kerkstraat in Hilversum’s bustling city centre, is Your Coffee, a cosy and laid-back eatery where everyone is made to feel welcome – from those seeking to drift away with a good book and a warm drink, to parents looking for a shot of much needed caffeine and a quick escape with their children.
Walk through the arched doorway of what was once the Leger des Heilskerk (Salvation Army Church) and you will find yourself in a bright and inviting interior where meaningful details such as tall windows, colourful chairs, a special place to park baby prams, and an ample staircase decked with ‘love locks’ are guaranteed to make your visit all the more enjoyable. The first floor boasts beach-like vibes with plants in hanging baskets and neutral shades of beige, white and grey. Find a nice spot on one of the wooden benches that line the walls and grab a comfy pillow. When you’re ready to order, simply write what you want on a small form, place the form in a ball, and roll the ball downstairs. The same system is especially appreciated by the little ones who visit the attic playroom, a space with plenty of toys to keep them entertained while you sip your coffee (everything from a ristretto to a latte macchiato) or one of their 18 varieties of tea.
The menu is presented on clipboards and features breakfasts (choose the ‘smoothie bowl’ for an energetic start to the day or stop by on a Sunday and treat yourself to the ‘breakfast platter de luxe’ which includes scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and a bottle of Prosecco), lunch (a selection of sandwiches or wholesome salads), baked goods (their apple pie is said to be the best in Hilversum!), finger foods (served after 14:00 and perfect with one of their wines or beers), and healthy drinks (from vibrant super juices to vitamin-rich green smoothies). Especially recommended is the ‘buddha bowl’ (a vegan salad with black beans, avocado, hummus and a mix of nuts and seeds). If you’re in the mood for something sweet and choosing isn’t easy, try the ‘shortbread salted caramel & nut slice’. You won’t be disappointed. A visit Your Coffee in the spring or summer guarantees you one of the sunniest terraces in the city, located on an attractive and inviting square (Wagenmakersplein) which happens to be car-free and is just a stone’s throw away from Hilvertshof shopping centre.
